Woman who caused fatal crash has checkered history

On Behalf of | Aug 7, 2015 | Drunk Driving

A woman from out of state recently caused an accident in Springfield, Missouri that killed an elderly couple. The driver was heading down Battlefield Road when she crossed over a grassy area and hit the Honda CR-V the couple was in while they were sitting in traffic on the West Bypass. The driver was traveling at a high rate of speed, according to police officers. When the couple was struck, they were ejected from their vehicle. They died on scene.

The driver, on the other hand, was rushed to a hospital. She sustained no life-threatening injuries. This is not the first time she has been involved with such reckless behavior. She was charged with a misdemeanor for excessive speeding in St. Louis County. In addition, she was charged in her home state for a DWI. In that instance, she was found in a ditch after she said she swerved to dodge an oncoming car.

Her husband showed up at the scene of the ditch accident, telling officers she had trouble with alcohol. At the time of the crash, she was supposed to be in rehab. Her husband asked the officers to arrest her for her own good. Her blood alcohol content was .215. She has also been involved in domestic abuse related to alcohol. No charges have been pressed at this point, but the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who has been charged with driving while intoxicated may be able to fight the charges, especially if they were not drunk. A criminal law attorney may be able to provide legal counsel and representation in court.
