Losing your driver’s license is one of the most serious consequences of a DWI. You may have to make alternative arrangements for getting to work and performing routine tasks. While family members and friends may be willing to help you, their patience can wear thin, leaving you without a reliable means of transportation.
Many people convicted of DWI can get limited driving privileges that allow them to operate a motor vehicle for preapproved purposes. As part of our DWI defense services, Travis Noble, P.C., assists clients in obtaining limited driving privileges. We also provide vigorous, results-oriented representation in Department of Revenue (DOR) hearings for people whose DWI cases have not been resolved.
Put our experience to work for you. Call us today at (314) 721-6614 to discuss your drunk driving defense.
After you are convicted of a first-time DWI, your license will be suspended for 30 days, after which you are eligible for a 60-day restricted driving privilege (often called a hardship license). However, if you agree to use an ignition interlock device, you can request restricted driving privileges earlier — after a 15-day suspension. If you choose this option, your driving privileges will be restricted for 75 days.
Limited driving privileges allow you to drive for certain purposes such as going to work, taking your children to school or going to the doctor. After the restricted driving period has elapsed, you can apply for the reinstatement of your driver’s license, provided that you have complied with the terms of your sentence (failure to comply will double your restricted driving period).
It is possible to request restricted driving privileges after a second or subsequent DWI conviction, but the waiting period is longer than for a first-time DWI. For example, if your license has been revoked for five or 10 years, you must wait 45 days before you can request a restricted driving license, and you are required to install an ignition interlock device.
If you have just been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, attorney Travis L. Noble can represent you in a DWI administrative hearing, seeking to prevent the suspension of your license. Mr. Noble can also use this hearing to get the arresting officer to commit to certain facts that could be of use in your criminal case. Travis Noble will aggressively represent you in all venues.
But you must act quickly. After a DWI arrest, you have only 15 days to request a DOR hearing to prevent the automatic suspension of your license. For help in getting a restricted license and protecting your driving privileges, contact Travis Noble, P.C., in St. Louis. Call (314) 721-6614 today.
