Missouri woman charged with DWI after 1-car crash

A woman from Bourbon was accused of driving drunk after crashing her car into a tree on Jan. 30. According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 39-year-old woman was traveling westbound on Rock Road in a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed.

Troopers say the alleged drunk driving accident took place when the woman failed to negotiate a curve in the road. Her vehicle drifted to the left, exited the roadway and hit a tree. The woman suffered minor injuries in the accident, and a North Crawford County Ambulance delivered her to Missouri Baptist Hospital for treatment. The woman’s vehicle sustained minor damage.

After the woman was treated for her injuries, she was taken into custody by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and brought to Steelville. She was booked for four different charges that included no valid operator’s license, no proof of insurance, careless and imprudent driving and DWI drugs prior offender. It is unclear whether the woman was given chemical sobriety tests and what type of drugs she was accused of taking before she drove.

Some people are handed DWI drugs charges while they are under the influence of a medication that they have a valid prescription for. A person in this situation may be able to have their charges dropped by explaining that their doctor never informed them about the risks of driving while taking the medication. A criminal defense attorney may be able to help someone in this situation to prove that they did not willfully drive while they were impaired.
