Police take eight into custody for DWI during checkpoints

Eight people were taken into police custody in Missouri on suspicion of driving while under the influence during checkpoints that were conducted during a weekend. According to the report, the first checkpoint was conducted from 10:04 p.m. to 12:01 a.m. on Oct. 4 and 5. The second checkpoint was conducted from 12:46 to 2:53 a.m. on Oct. 5. In total, 780 motorists were stopped during the checkpoint. The checkpoints were conducted with the help of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and were funded with a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation and Highway safety.

In addition to the eight people who were suspected of driving while intoxicated, three people were also taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance, one person was taken into custody for possession of imitation of a controlled substance and one person was taken into custody for possession of drug paraphernalia. Several people were also taken into custody for driving on suspended or revoked licenses, and one person had an active warrant.

Those who are convicted for DWI may face serious consequences. For example, the individual faces losing their license for 30 days and having a restricted license for 60 days. Some individuals may be sentenced to a maximum of six months in prison and a maximum fine of $500. If the individual caused an accident that resulted in bodily harm to another individual, the consequences can be even more severe.

An experienced Missouri attorney may be able to help their client by giving them valuable legal advice when it comes to fighting a DWI charge. They may be able to provide strong representation throughout the entire court process and administrative hearing. Finally, they may also help their client negotiate a lesser charge if a conviction seems likely.
