Springfield man caught speeding at 133 mph on Interstate 44

On Behalf of | Sep 10, 2013 | Drunk Driving

An early morning traffic stop by Missouri State Police resulted in charges for a Springfield man accused of driving more than 60 miles per hour over the posted speed limit. The accused was also charged with impaired driving as he was allegedly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He was pulled over by a state trooper near the 123 mile marker of eastbound Interstate 44.

The trooper’s report indicated that the accused’s vehicle had been clocked at 133 mph and that the man had been driving while drunk. Even though the accused had been traveling at an extremely high rate of speed, police did not have to pursue him to get him to stop. The man surrendered without incident, and he was taken to Laclede County jail.

Drunk driving charges in this incident are complicated by the accused man’s allegedly speeding over 60 mph over the speed limit, even though he did not cause a traffic accident. The accused has a history of speeding, having been convicted of going at least 20 mph over the speed limit in 2011 and for another offense in the same year, traveling at less than 5 mph over the limit.

Even though records do not indicate that the accused had previously been arrested on DUI charges, the man may decide to hire attorneys knowledgeable about Missouri’s traffic and DUI laws to mount a proper defense and mitigate any effects from this incident. Experienced attorneys may be able to help clients in similar circumstances by getting charges reduced or thrown out of court or by pointing out how participating in measures such as traffic school can possibly prevent future incidents.
