Man charged with DUI after hitting house

St. Louis residents may be interested in a recent accident that left a house damaged, a car totaled and a driver facing charges. A 35-year-old driver of a Honda Accord faces several charges, including driving while intoxicated, after he wrecked his car into the side of a house. The accident happened around 9 am on Sept. 22 on CR 27 near Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Police claim the driver ran a stop sign and then drove over 200 feet through a nearby yard. The car hit a hot tub and then traveled an additional 100 feet before coming to a stop. In addition to hitting the hot tub, the crash damaged two walls on the house and a couch, pushing it across a room inside the house.

Two adults and four children were inside the home at the time of the wreck. A 13-year-old boy was watching television in the room that was struck and two other children were sleeping in a nearby bedroom. No one was injured in the accident. The 50-year-old homeowner estimated damages at over $75,000. The car was damaged beyond repair. The driver was charged with driving while intoxicated with drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and careless driving.

Driving while intoxicated charges are always serious, but the penalties can be even more severe if the alleged intoxicated driving leads to an accident in which a person is injured or property is damaged. The accused in this case could face loss of driving privileges, jail time, probation, fines or community service. An attorney with intoxicated driving defense experience could help individuals facing similar charges by reviewing the details of the case and preparing and presenting a defense on the accused’s behalf.
