If you are a woman who enjoys alcohol, you may already know that, as a general rule, your male counterparts can get away with drinking more and still be more sober than you are. It is unfair and is a reality of body weight and possibly other factors such as stomach enzymes.

Since women are hearing more "it is cool to drink" messages than ever, it is a good idea to take a look at how quickly a woman can get drunk while enjoying a few cold ones with friends.

120 pounds

A 120-pound woman who drinks five light beers over three hours is nearly drunk enough to be arrested for intoxicated driving; her BAC would be about 0.064. Add one more beer (or a shot of vodka), or subtract 30 minutes to an hour, and she could be above 0.08. This is particularly true for women with low tolerances. Because underage drivers in Missouri can get into trouble with any alcohol in their system, 0.064 is a formidable number.

140 pounds

A woman weighing 140 pounds who drinks five light beers over three hours would have a BAC of about 0.055. This number looks better than it does for a 120-pound woman, but again, all it takes is low tolerance or a shot of vodka to change everything. And, of course, a teenager caught with this level of alcohol in her system could experience consequences such as a suspended license and reduced employment prospects.

A general idea

It is important to note that the examples above are only generalized. Two 120-pound women could fare contrarily, especially if they are of different heights and have different drinking backgrounds. However, you do get an idea of how quickly beer can affect a woman. And that is only light beer. Factor in harder liquor, and the story gets grimmer.

If you have been pulled over for drinking, the quality of your future may be at risk. An attorney can help ensure the protection of your rights.
