3 tips for avoiding a DWI charge on Halloween

On Behalf of | Oct 23, 2017 | Blog

It is almost Halloween, which means you are probably planning to party. Adult Halloween parties can be a great way to have some fun and socialize. As you get ready to dress up, eat candy and have some drinks with your friends, the scariest thing on your mind may be getting pulled over for driving under the influence.

With all the frights on Halloween, a DWI conviction surely tops the list. How can you reduce your chances of getting a traffic stop for drunk driving? Read the helpful tips below to avoid getting put behind bars while wearing your Halloween costume.

1. Designate a driver

Having a designated driver is one of the most effective ways to avoid a DWI charge. Talk among your friends and determine who is willing to forego the drinks in order to get you home safely. You can best accomplish this if you leave your car at home and hitch a ride with the designated driver to the party.

2. Stay under the legal limit

You can receive a DWI conviction if you have a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent. This is easier to get to than you may realize. The alcohol content of each drink and your weight and gender all affect how fast you get to a BAC of 0.08 percent. If you have a beer or two, make sure you eat at the same time to ensure your body digests the alcohol. Stop drinking a few hours before you drive to let it wear off.

3. Behave yourself in front of cops

If you drive through a DWI checkpoint or police pull you over, make sure you remain calm and respectful. Do not make the situation worse by being rude. Politely cooperate with any reasonable requests so you do not make things worse for yourself.

Of course, you can always choose not to drink at the party. All of these things can reduce your chances of getting a DWI conviction on Halloween.
