Missouri woman charged with DWI after I-270 crash

A Missouri woman was arrested on drunk driving charges after she was involved in a car crash in St. Louis County on March 15. The incident occurred at around 12:30 a.m.

According to the Missouri State Police, the 25-year-old was traveling south on I-270 in her 2006 Mazda 3 when she veered off the highway near Dougherty Ferry Road and slammed into an abandoned 2000 Plymouth Voyager that was parked on the shoulder of the interstate. The impact totaled both vehicles.

The woman was transported to St. Clare Health Center in Fenton for treatment of moderate injuries and released. Police said she was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. She has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

Missouri residents charged with driving while intoxicated can face harsh penalties in the event they are convicted. These penalties may include significant jail time, steep fines and/or the loss of driving privileges, which could negatively impact a defendant's life for years. However, a criminal defense attorney might develop a strategy to fight the allegations and get the charges reduced or dismissed. For example, an attorney could dispute the accuracy of any field sobriety or blood alcohol content level tests a defendant was subjected to, particularly if the results fall close to the legal limit. In other cases, an attorney could advocate for alcohol treatment in lieu of jail time or negotiate a plea deal that mitigates the most serious charges in exchange for the defendant's admission of guilt.
