Missouri man charged with DWI-related misdemeanors

A drunk driver in Missouri rammed his truck into and over a concrete barricade, separating the road from the sidewalk. He was charged with three misdemeanors after the accident: reckless driving, driving under the influence and driving while a habitual violator. Though no one was injured, the consequences of these charges could be severe.

The man’s license had been revoked nearly 10 years prior to the accident for a DWI conviction. He claimed he was to get his license back the week after the event. Though it does not affect the charges, the judge did say she would take that circumstance into consideration when she set the bond. But other conditions will also affect the bond amount.

The courts called the circumstances surrounding this incident “egregious.” He had an open case of beer, plus an open can, in the truck at the time of the accident. In addition, because he went up over the sidewalk barrier, he could have seriously injured pedestrians. As such, prosecutors stated he endangered public safety.

It took two hours for city and towing companies to finally get the truck off of the barricade, causing rush-hour traffic on North Second Street to be rerouted and severely slowed. In addition, the man seemed to have no local ties, though he does sometimes stay with his son in a nearby town.

Anyone who is facing criminal charges for drunk driving should consult with a criminal law attorney. They may be able to provide counsel, as well as representation in court.
