Alleged repeat Missouri DWI offender taken into custody

According to law enforcement authorities in Callaway County, a 55-year-old Fulton man with a reported history of repeat DWI offenses was taken into custody on multiple charges on Dec. 27. Reportedly, the incident leading to the man's arrest occurred around 1:40 a.m. on County Road 269.

Officers allege that a deputy saw the man speed and run a stop sign. When the deputy attempted to perform a traffic stop on the man's truck, the man allegedly attempted to flee instead of pulling over. Officers claim that during the chase, the man was traveling at speeds of up to 90 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.

The chase came to an end when the man reportedly lost control of his vehicle. He was then taken into custody, charged with offenses that included felony driving while revoked. Additionally, he was charged with driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest with substantial risk of injury or death, failing to stop at a stop sign, speeding, careless and imprudent driving and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle with activated lights and sirens. The man's bond was set in the amount of $25,000 cash only. Officers did not report whether the man submitted to blood or alcohol testing and if so, what the results were.

Those who are driving when an officer tries to stop their vehicle should pull over immediately. Attempting to elude the officer will only lead to additional and more serious charges. Upon being stopped, if an officer suspects impairment, the driver may be required to submit to a breath or blood test. After charges are filed in a case such as this one, the accused may wish to seek out the help of a DWI defense attorney in order to negotiate a plea or fight the case at trial.
