Woman faces DUI, other charges in Missouri

A 50-year-old Missouri woman is facing multiple charges related to DUI after what police claim was a late-night pursuit shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 6. According to authorities, multiple agencies were involved in taking the woman into custody.

A deputy for Scott County claims that he saw the woman commit several traffic violations. He pursued her, but, according to him, the woman accelerated and began weaving in and out of traffic.

He says that he followed her through the town of Sikeston and was finally able to stop her in New Madrid County. Allegedly, the woman initially put up a struggle. The Missouri State Highway Patrol, the New Madrid County Sheriff's Office and the New Madrid Police Department all assisted in taking the woman into custody. She has been charged with resisting arrest, driving on a revoked license and DUI.

The woman may wish to work with an attorney to deal with the drunk driving charges. How an attorney approaches such a situation depends upon the specifics of the case and how the individual was determined to be under the influence. For example, if an individual takes a breath or blood test, an attorney might dispute the results or argue that the individual was not allowed the opportunity to give proper consent to the testing.

If no tests were done and the charge is based on an individual's behavior, an attorney might argue that the individual was not drunk. For example, some medical conditions might mimic drunkenness.

An attorney's approach might also depend upon whether it is the individual's first offense. Penalties grow increasingly severe after the first offense and may include jail time, fines, license suspension or installation of an ignition interlock device.
