Missouri car crash with 3 injuries could be result of DWI

On Behalf of | Aug 12, 2014 | Drunk Driving

Police suspect that drunk driving may have been the cause of a motor vehicle accident that injured three people on Aug. 3 in Edwardsville. The accident occurred around 6:47 a.m. at the intersection of Buchanan and Hillsboro. According to reports, a 20-year-old man was traveling north on Buchanan at the same time that a second vehicle was traveling west on Hillsboro.

The man allegedly ran through a stop sign at the intersection and struck the second vehicle, pushing it into a third car. A passenger in the accused man’s car and the driver of one of the other vehicles were injured and were transported by air to Saint Louis University Hospital. A third unidentified person was also injured and was taken to Anderson Hospital. The accident was being investigated by the Illinois State Police.

Police believe that the man may have been intoxicated and took him into custody on suspicion of drunk driving and failure to obey a stop sign. He is facing multiple charges which include at least one charge that was elevated to a felony due to the severity of injuries suffered in the accident. His bond was set at $40,000, and he is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 22.

A person convicted of drunk driving may have to pay large fines and serve time in jail. A drunk driving conviction on a person’s record could also make it hard for them to secure employment in the future. Anyone facing drunk driving charges may want to enlist the services of an experienced attorney to scrutinize the evidence and begin building a credible defense.
