Man faces felony DWI after colliding with guardrail

On Behalf of | Jun 24, 2014 | Felonies

A man is facing multiple criminal charges in central Missouri after the vehicle he was driving collided with a guardrail during the early morning hours of June 22. According to news reports, the 42-year-old driver has been taken into police custody and is being held at Callaway County Jail on $14,000 bond. Police allege that the driver resisted arrest and was under the influence of alcohol when the accident occurred.

Sources report that preliminary charges include felony DWI, first-degree property damage and resisting arrest for a felony. The man is also charged with operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner involving an accident.

Reports indicate that law enforcement officials responded to the scene shortly after 12:32 a.m. and determined that the collision occurred when the allegedly intoxicated driver veered off the roadway. The crash caused significant damage to both the guardrail and the vehicle. No injuries have been reported in connection with this crash as of press time.

Even when no one is hurt in a wreck in which alcohol is a factor, the penalties associated with a felony DWI can be harsh. The consequences of a drunk driving conviction following an accident could include hefty fines, mandatory participation in a treatment program, license revocation, a prison sentence and a criminal record.

Because a felony conviction for impaired driving can have serious repercussions on all areas of an individual’s life, Missouri residents who find themselves facing similar charges might find it beneficial to discuss their legal options with a felony DWI defense lawyer. The attorney could evaluate the evidence and possibly identify deficiencies in the prosecution’s case that could result in lesser charges, a dismissal of the charges or an acquittal in the event that the case goes to trial.
