St. Louis man sleeping in car accused of DUI

According to a recent report, a car remained parked between two pumps at the Tesson Ferry Road Petro-Mart in St. Louis County for an estimated time of at least half an hour. The engine was reportedly running, and the vehicle’s headlights illuminated the ground. Employees went to check on the driver. They claim to have found a 28-year-old St. Louis resident asleep in the reclined front seat. The employees contacted local police, and the sleeping man now faces criminal charges.

It is alleged that the man used an empty beer case for a pillow and that additional cases were found in the car. When police arrived, their initial attempts to revive the man were reportedly unsuccessful. They claim that neither shining a flashlight inside the vehicle nor blaring sirens was sufficient to wake the sleeping man. Finally, the man awoke after officers broke a window on the passenger side of the car.

According to police, the driver denied drinking, but officers claim that they found open containers in the car. He reportedly refused to take a blood alcohol content test. Police stated that the man had slurred speech and that they feared for the man’s safety if they gave him field sobriety tests. The driver has been charged with driving while intoxicated as a persistent offender.

When a person is accused of a crime, a criminal defense lawyer can help at all stages of the process. From the initial appearance through trial, if necessary, a lawyer can provide information and support to make a confusing process less complicated. A lawyer can also help ensure that the prosecutor respects the accused person’s constitutional rights and help the defendant decide between pursuing a plea bargain or trying to get an acquittal at trial.
