Drunk driving crackdown in Missouri

Law enforcement departments in St. Ann and other communities in Missouri are endeavoring to prevent tragedies during the season of proms and graduations. Officials will be working together to promote safe and sober celebrations. The state's Zero Tolerance Law provides for strict consequences if a driver under the age of 21 tests positive for even a trace of alcohol while driving. However, the state's drunk driving incidents resulting in accidents include a significant level of underage drivers in spite of stiff consequences. As officials promote their efforts to reduce drunk driving accidents, they are highlighting additional statistics related to incidents on the state's roads. For example, 318 individuals were seriously injured and 85 were killed in accidents involving impaired driving by underage individuals from 2011 to 2013. Officials reiterate that zero tolerance signifies zero chances and that the consequences aren't worth the risk. A young person violating the Zero Tolerance Law may face emotional stress along with financial consequences, including legal fees and fines. They may also find that their future employment and education opportunities are negatively affected. An underage driver will also lose a license for driving with any alcohol detected in the bloodstream. While the purpose of a DUI crackdown may be appreciated by community members, a young person facing the aftermath of being cited in connection with such efforts may find it challenging to know how to deal with related legal appearances and consequences. A lawyer assisting in such a case may be able to evaluate the results of breath tests and field sobriety tests, potentially challenging results if these are the only criteria used to cite a client. Additionally, a lawyer may evaluate the situation to ensure that a client's personal rights haven't been violated.
