Man pleads guilty to fatal St. Louis crash

A driver involved in a fatal 2012 St. Louis accident pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges on March 21. The accident occurred on March 1, 2012, at the intersection of South Lindbergh Boulevard and East Concord Road in South St. Louis. According to police, the man allegedly ran a red light and struck the side of a car driven by a 58-year-old woman.

The woman was taken to St. Anthony's Medical Center. She later died there from her injuries. Police claim that the man had a blood alcohol level of 0.12 percent nearly three hours after the crash, which is almost twice the legal limit. He was taken into police custody for DWI and booked into the St. Louis County Jail. He posted $50,000 bond the next morning and was released.

Following the woman's death, the man was charged with involuntary manslaughter. He is scheduled for sentencing in May. If he is convicted, he could possibly be facing up to 15 years in prison. The report did not say whether he had any prior drunk driving convictions.

Drivers charged with DWI may be facing severe consequences, which include fines, a suspended license and a criminal record. In addition to legal penalties, a defendant may also face difficulties obtaining future employment if he or she is convicted. An attorney with experience in DUI laws may assist these individuals by disputing the charges or negotiating a plea deal. In this case, the man entered into a plea agreement where he pleaded guilty to some of the charges in an effort to potentially obtain a reduced sentence.
