Tito Ortiz charged with misdemeanor DUI

Missouri residents may be interested to learn about former UFC star Tito Ortiz’s recent charge for DUI. The former UFC light heavyweight champion was stopped in Los Angeles for alleged drunk driving after leaving a BCS National Championship pre-party at the Playboy mansion. A Breathalyzer test conducted by police at the scene showed that Ortiz had a blood-alcohol content of .12 percent.

The incident took place while Ortiz was traveling along Interstate 405 with two passengers in his vehicle. Around 4 a.m., Ortiz ran his 2012 Porsche Panamera into a concrete median. police said. Following the collision, Ortiz was taken into police custody and booked for a misdemeanor DUI charge. By 8:13 a.m., Ortiz had been released after posting $15,000 bond.

An arrest record from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shows that Ortiz is expected to appear in court on Jan. 27. There have been no reports about how he is planning to plead to his charge for DUI. If Ortiz chooses to plead innocent, he may be able to build a solid defense by disputing the evidence that was collected from the Breathalyzer test. In some cases, operator error can result in a Breathalyzer test displaying a false reading.

While building his defense, Ortiz may argue that the accident that took place was not a result of intoxication or that he lost control of his vehicle because he was suffering from exhaustion. An attorney may help people facing DUI charges as they plan to present their case before the court.
