Man charged with DUI in accident with best friend

On Behalf of | Oct 4, 2013 | Felonies

Community members gathered to raise money to benefit the family of a Missouri man who was killed in an accident. The 25-year-old man died of his injuries after a friend, also 25, allegedly struck him with a truck. Some witnesses alleged that the man was driving while intoxicated.

The accident happened on Sept. 9 in Pennsylvania where the two men were working. Police took the driver into custody after witnesses said they saw him driving the truck that struck the man. According to a hotel security guard, the two men and a third went out together that night. The guard claimed that he had tried to stop the group from leaving the hotel parking lot because he thought that they were too intoxicated to drive. The third man told police that the two men were arguing over who should drive.

When the group left the hotel, the man who died was driving the truck. When the group later stopped at a fast-food restaurant, the accused man reportedly got behind the wheel. Witnesses said the man who was hit reportedly stepped in front of the truck and asked the driver if he was going to run over him. Apparently, driver moved the truck forward, striking the other man and knocking him to the ground. After checking on the man, the driver reportedly left the scene.

Being convicted of felony DUI charges could have serious consequences. A defense lawyer could review the details of the case to determine if any procedures were done improperly by law enforcement officers. The lawyer could also negotiate for a plea deal in an attempt to reduce charges or have the accused entered into a rehabilitation program instead of serve a sentence.
