Four men accused of home invasion robbery

On Oct. 14, police received reports of a robbery on Beechmont Court in St. Louis County. Police claim that four men approached two women sitting in a car that was backing out of the house's garage at approximately 10:30 a.m. Two of the men were armed, police say. All four may face criminal charges arising out of the alleged incident.

It is reported that the men ordered the women to exit the vehicle and return to the home. Police claim that the women were ordered to give the men cash and jewelry. As they complied, one of them ran outside and alerted the neighbors by screaming.

Three of the men left the scene in an unidentified vehicle. A fourth individual left the area on foot. Police detained the man approximately a mile from the home. He did not have any stolen property on him when he was stopped and taken into custody. The women purportedly identified the accused man as one of alleged robbers. No charges were filed on Monday. Police did not release any descriptions of the other three men believed to have been involved.

Eyewitness testimony has a long history of being unreliable. When a person is charged with a crime solely on the basis of eye-witness testimony, a criminal defense attorney may be able to help challenge the identification. If police stop and frisk a person without reasonable suspicion to believe that the person committed a crime, an attorney may also be able to move to suppress any evidence obtained as a result of the illegal stop or arrest. In addition, when several people are accused, an attorney may be able to help work out a plea bargain where a person receives immunity in exchange for testifying against the others.
