Missouri man arrested after 10th DUI charge

A St. Louis County man who received his first driving while intoxicated charge almost three decades ago has reached an unfortunate milestone. He has been taken into custody and charged with his fifth DWI.

The 53-year-old male was stopped by Florissant police for speeding. The report does not say if they subjected him to field sobriety or other tests to determine his DWI, but he was taken into custody on suspicion of being intoxicated. His record reveals that he has been convicted numerous times on drunk driving and other vehicular charges.

The male was first convicted on a DWI charge in 1984, and the most recent charge took place in September 2008. Interspersed with these charges are ten convictions for driving with a suspended or revoked license. The man’s most recent for DWI stop resulted in prosecutors charging him with felony drunk driving, being a chronic offender, and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was placed in jail on a $100,000 bond.

Multiple DWI convictions can lead to serious consequences for defendants. In addition to removal of driving privileges, which can lead to job firings and lost wages, jail and monetary penalties can be quite high, especially for chronic offenders. In these types of situations, defendants may wish to consult with a criminal defense attorney that deals in DWI cases. Lawyers in these firms will attempt to work with their clients to learn their history and the current events that led to their most recent infractions. They may not be able to clear all charges, but DWI defense attorneys may be able to come to a solution with which all parties are satisfied.
