Police shot a man who allegedly pointed a gun at an officer during a routine afternoon traffic stop on July 30 in St Louis. County police attempted to stop a vehicle that the man was riding in for failing to yield near Chambers Road and Jeffrey Drive.

The passenger got out of the car, and police say that he pointed a gun at them. Police fired their weapons, and the man was hit by the officers. He then ran away from the scene after dropping the gun. Police took him into custody a block away and found the fully loaded weapon that the man apparently brandished. Later, police allegedly discovered that the gun had been stolen. They also found that the man has multiple warrants out for his arrest, including a charge for second-degree assault of a police officer.

The driver of the car was a female in her 20s, and she was also taken into custody. The age of the man is unknown. Police did not say what criminal charges the man is being held on.

The man will undoubtedly face serious consequences for his actions, not to mention pain and suffering from his gunshot wounds. The criminal charges he faces must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, and this is when a defense lawyer may help. A lawyer may examine the evidence to see if the man was indeed armed with a stolen gun, which could include fingerprints and other forensic evidence. A lawyer could also try to find out where the gun came from and how it supposedly wound up in the man's ownership.
