Missouri Abuse And Lose Law

Underage alcohol offenses are taken very seriously in Missouri. Our state has a law that is referred to as the “abuse and lose law.” This means that if you abuse alcohol or drugs and are caught doing so, you may lose your driver’s license for a period of time.

To mount an aggressive defense of your driver’s license, enlist the help of a lawyer at Travis Noble, P.C. Our firm is highly respected for handling all types of DWI cases in St. Louis and the surrounding areas. We will work tirelessly to fight the charges you are facing and attempt to help you retain your driver’s license whenever possible.

What Is Abuse And Lose?

If you are under the age of 21 and convicted of any of the following charges, you will lose your driver’s license:

  • An alcohol-related traffic violation
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while in possession of alcohol
  • Any type of crime involving the use or possession of drugs
  • Changing a driver’s license, using a fake ID or any other offense involving an altered license
  • Second offense involving a person under the age of 18 who is in possession of or under the influence of alcohol

If this is your first offense, you will have your driver’s license suspended for 90 days. If this is your second or other subsequent violation, your license will be revoked for an entire year.

Driver’s License Reinstatement

Because underage drinking and drug use are serious, the courts ensure that young offenders understand the impact of their actions through the abuse and lose law. To get your license back after a suspension or revocation, you must pay a license reinstatement fee as well as show proof that you have completed the Substance Abuse Traffic Offender Program (SATOP) or a similar rehabilitative program.
